Jerome Lyle Langseth
September 22, 1939 - March 22, 2024

Place of Birth: Williston
Residence: Williston, North Dakota
Age: 84

Jerry Langseth, 84, of Williston, ND passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston, ND.

Jerome was born on September 22, 1939 in Williston, North Dakota to George and Bertha Marie (Johnson) Langseth. He grew up on a farm near Williston and in 1947 the family moved to Williston. After graduating from Dakota Lutheran Academy in Minot, he attended college at Lutheran Brother Institute in Minneapolis and Minot State to achieve his teaching certificate. He was teaching in Bainville, MT where he met and married his love of almost 60 years, Darlene, on August 10, 1963. He taught and mentored many children in music in Bainville, MT; Fairview, MT; Laurel, MT; Baker, MT; Trenton, ND; and business classes in Epping, ND. After retiring from Epping to focus on farming, his love of music called him back to teaching at Trinity Christian in Williston; Niche, ND; Powers Lake, ND and Watford City, ND.

He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed sharing his love of art (especially his pheasants), raising cattle and farming with his father, sharing his faith and following his children and grandchildren’s activities. Along with Darlene, he enjoyed dancing, attending Sons of Norway, Lion’s Club and the Moose Club for many years. He was a Lifetime member of Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed hosting friends and family to share coffee and a treat.

Jerome may be gone from our sight but not our memories, and he may be gone from our touch but never our hearts.

The family greatly appreciates all the care Jerome received from Arbor House, Bethel Lutheran Home and CHI Williston.

He is survived by daughters, Ivadell (Rick) Tremmel, Angela (Dan) Beumer; son, Dirk (Amy) Langseth; grandchildren, Rachel and Mark Beumer; Jaymie Langseth, Mitchel Robertsdahl, Kerry and Kyle Heltemes; sisters, Jan (Charlie) Morrison, Marlene (Johnny) Herbst; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bertha Marie; beloved wife, Darlene; and sister, Mavis Langseth.

I am so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. He was not only my music teacher in Fairview High School but he was a life long friend. I remember how excited he was to announce to the band class the birth of his baby, Ivy! He was so proud of his children and the love for Darlene was so obvious to us. He was a great example for us. I will miss him in this world but will see him in the next. RIP, Mr. Langseth.

The Langseth Family, I am grateful to have your father put up with me in choir at Fairview High. What patience he had with me always singing off key. I still can’t carry a tune and that is certainly no fault of Mr. Langseths. He directed us with such enthusiasm. At times I thought he might fall off the little riser he stood on. The thing that always stuck out was how much he cared about us.

We loved Jerry! He was a long time farm neighbor & dear friend! He & Darlene were our special dance friends. It was so sad when the Moose stopped hiring bands & ended those fun dance rendezvous with the older folks! May Jesus bless you with fond memories that last forever! With our sincere sympathy, C'Dale & Phil

I am deeply sorry to hear about Jerry's passing and not so long ago, Darlene's. Jerry was Mr Langseth when he was my music teacher in 6th grade. It meant a lot that he made time for my clarinet lessons. He gave me opportunities and encouragement. He was passionate about music! Jerry always greeted me with a smile and a firm handshake over the years, and more recently a big hug. It was so good to see him. Darlene and Jerry would bring in the family, it was fun to visit. Stories, smiles and laughter! I will miss Jerry as I know others who knew him and Darlene will too. My thoughts are with you all.

Jerry and Darlene were my neighbors for several years. Such a delightful, kind man. We shared many visits and I remember specifically they day we all had coffee and he showed me his art collection. He had such a great sense of humor and a true gentleman. He also was my son’s teacher at Trinity. They just loved him as all the kids did. In their adult years he would stop into their store and had so many great conversations. He was such a good man loved by so many. May he rest in peace…. Our sympathy to all of you.
