Walter Joseph Obergfell, better known as “Tim”, was born in Sidney, MT on December 31, 1923. He is one of ten children born to Jake and Jean (Hately) Obergfell. He was raised on a ranch in the Gossett Community. Tim attended the Gossett School through eighth grade plus one year at Sidney High School. Tim helped on the family farm and worked for neighbors until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 where he served in the Philippines and New Guinea. After returning home in 1945, he worked for J&J Construction building power lines from Williston to Glendive. After that, Tim had various farm labor jobs around Richland County.
For the past 20 years Tim lived on his brother Jake’s place southeast of Sidney. In July of this year Tim entered the Glendive Veteran’s Home. He really liked it and enjoyed visiting and giving the girls at the VA Clinic a “bad” time.
Tim died on Monday, September 3, 2012, on his brother Sant’s birthday, at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive, MT.
Tim is survived by: his sisters, Bliff Kappel, Pete Larsen, and Jen (Merlyn) Larson all of Sidney, MT; his brother Jake (Joanne) Obergfell, Sidney, MT; his sister-in-law Joann, Sidney, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tim is preceded in death by: his parents; his brothers, James and Sant; his sisters, May, Dorothy, and Bun; and two nephews.
