Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Williston on Thursday from 1 PM until 5 PM and Friday from 9 AM until 6 PM and one hour before services at the Church on Saturday in Grenora.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, November 17, 2012 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Grenora. Interment with military honors by Alvin T. Larson Post 116 will be held at the Grenora Cemetery. Pastor Steve Anderson will officiate.

Marvin Hoff, 91, a longtime Grenora, ND resident died at the Mercy Medical Center in Williston on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.
“A Soldier Died Today”

Marvin K. Hoff, 91, of Grenora, ND left this earth on November 13 to head home to be with wife Ruth in heaven. Marvin K. Hoff, born July 18, 1921 to Henry and Ragna (Johanson) Hoff at home in Barr Butte Township and attended country school. He worked on the family farm until entering the service on October 14, 1942. He served his country in WWII, as an airplane mechanic/flight engineer/top turret gunner. His B-17 was shot down over the Adriatic Sea on March 11, 1944; he became a Prisoner of War in Germany until being freed by British soldiers May 2, 1945. He was honorably discharged from the service on September 17, 1945. Returning from the war, he worked at Westland Oil Company.

On Friday the 13th, of April, 1951, he married Ruth Peterson and they made their home in Grenora. He worked for the Farmers Union Oil Company for 37 years. After his retirement from Farmers Union Oil, he helped with spring’s work and harvest for several area farmers. Marvin was actively involved in the community serving on the church council, fire and ambulance departments, past Commander of Alvin T. Larson Legion Post #116, and Legion treasurer up until his death. Legion meetings were a big part of Marvin’s life. He proudly stated he “only missed two”. The Marvin K. Hoff American Legion Veterans Memorial park in Grenora was dedicated on Memorial Day, 2010.

Marvin is survived by daughter, Phyllis (John) Haskins, Williston; son, Wayne Hoff, Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Jennifer (Lane) Titus, Battleview; Dan (Becky) Haskins, Williston; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sydney Titus and Cole, Tom, Ellie and Rigby Haskins; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; his parents; sisters, Gudrun Stenersen, Mabel Iverson, Hilda Paulson, Laura Meyers, Lila Feree, and Florence McBroom; brothers, Clarence, Fred, Vernon, and James.
