Phyllis was born in Wolf Point, MT. to Frank and Nelle (Prichard) Metzger on February 23, 1923. Her folks divorced when she was 5. She then moved with her mother to Libby, MT. where she started 1st grade. When she was 9, her mother married Forrest DeRosia. He had two sons and they were raised as a family.

Phyllis graduated from Libby High School in 1942, and that fall she went to Havre to enter the Nurse’s Training Program. It was during this time that Phyllis met Clarence. Clarence enlisted in the Marine Corp attending boot camp and radio school. He came home on leave in December 1944. They were married at Libby Methodist Church on December 7th. Clarence returned to service and served in the Pacific Theatre for two years.

In May of 1945, Phyllis graduated from the Nurses Training. She worked at Libby Hospital until Clarence returned from Service in 1946. They then settled in Bainville, Mt except for the years of 1950-52 when they were in Peerless, MT. Together they had 4 sons; Tom, Forrest, Bryce and Jim.

When their youngest son started school, Phyllis started working at the hospital in Culbertson, MT. The last 9 years she was the Director of Nurses and then she spent 9 years as Dr. Reitzel’s Clinic Nurse. Phyllis enjoyed nursing which was such a strong part of her life. She received recognition for her nursing skills and received an honor for nursing in 2007. Phyllis held her nursing license for 67 years. After retirement, she enjoyed working with the Senior Citizen programs.

Phyllis loved being Clarence’s wife, loved being a mother, grandma and great grandma too. She was a lifetime Methodist Church member. In 2006 she received the Bishops Award for her work with the Church and her humanitarian services.

She is survived by her sons, Tom (Betty) Romo of Wolf Point, MT; Bryce (Denise) Romo of Bainville, MT; Jim (Cindy) Romo of Missoula, MT; 8 Grandsons, 20 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren and brother Gordon DeRosia.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, step father, husband, infant son Forrest, brother’s Bob DeRosia and Fred Metzger.
