We know that words are inadequate at this time, but we wanted you to know how sorry we are for your families loss. The loss of a husband and father is a tragic event.
It is at times like this that our faith is put to the test. We know that we must accept his passing and give thanks for the wonderful life he has lived.
We pray that God will give you and your family the strength to see you all through this sad and difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all...Allan Newman Jr, Skylar Newman, Linda Baker, Trena J Baker..."Blessed are those that mourn for they will be comforted"...Matthew 5:4.

Donna, Sydney, Shirley & David,
I was blessed as a young farm boy to meet Randy in Sunday School at First Lutheran Church in Williston. We became best of friends and although miles separated us, that bond remained. We created many great memories together. He was deeply loved and respected by my parents as well.

Randy was a consistent, loyal friend. He was a man of God, loved his family, treated others with respect and was truly a wonderful guy. I was shocked to learn of his affliction. We shared our faith, encouragement and openly shared our love for each other. In classic Randy way, he never complained, kept me informed and shared his love and concern for Donna and how his cancer journey impacted others. Always selfless.

I will miss you deeply, but will always cherish the times we shared. You will always be an inspiration to me of how to live my life personally and spiritually. You are now at peace and reunited with loved ones. I look forward to seeing you again.

Your friend,
Scott Brokaw

To The Family Of Randy Slais,

Like Scott, I met Randy at First Lutheran Church when we were kids in Sunday School together over 50 years ago. You don’t find a more likeable guy, and even though we competed in grade school sports because we went to different schools, we always stayed friends.

He had the friendliest smile and demeanor, just like his parents. I think his mother taught us in Sunday School one year, and I always stopped by his family’s store on University Drive when I was at my cousin Lorna Sandvik’s house a block away.

After we graduated back in 1973, again with Scott, we both left Williston, but returned to visit our families and would see each other at High School Reunions and holidays.

One of my favorite memories of Randy was during our 10-year High School Reunion. Randy was a great golfer, and I was just the opposite.

We got put on the same golf scramble team, and through the skill of the other members of our team, we managed to win 3rd place.

In accepting our trophy T-Shirts, Randy had to mention my lack of golf skills, but then chuckled about the one hole where they used my shot when I had somehow drilled a 35’ putt.

Later, Randy’s mom would always update me on Randy when I visited my parents up at Bethel Home. Growing up, I always kind of thought of her as my second mother.

And I always thought of Randy as a friend and brother…

Still got the T-Shirt, but not my memory. It was the 20-year reunion in 1993. Scott might have been on our 4-some...

Would like to have a copy of Scott's remembrance.

My condolences to the Slais family.

I graduated WHS in 1973 with Randy. If one could truly define what a good person was, and look it up in a dictionary, Randy's picture would be there as an example.

It is with deepest respect that I note the passing of Randy. I worked along side him in Gillette, Wyo. and on Sunday's sat with him in a Lutheran Mission Church which happened to be the American Legion Club. When advised of his illness I was sad but knew God had plans for my friend and his servant. Hugs to all of his family and friends.
