March 21, 1925 - April 22, 2017

Place of Birth: Rural Crosby, ND

Age: 92

Janice Tangedal, 92, of Williston, ND, formerly of rural Ambrose, ND, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston. Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home in Williston is assisting the family.

Janice A Malnaa Tangedal was born March 21, 1925 to John and Tina (Overland) Malnaa at the family farm in Divide County North Dakota. She attended school in Crosby ND.

She was united in marriage to Curtis Tangedal at Plentywood Lutheran Church on October 14, 1944 and they began their life together farming and raising cattle with his brother Stanley on his farm north of Fortuna ND. In 1962 they purchased their own farm south of Ambrose ND where they raised wheat, cattle and registered quarter horses. In 1980 they sold the farm and moved to Williston ND.

While on the farm Janice was involved in many community activities including Sunday School Teacher, March of Dimes fundraiser, NFO, Democrat Party and was always available to help for any events she was needed for. She worked in the Ambrose Store and Joraanstad’s Style Shop in Crosby. Once they moved to Williston she sold Tupperware and earned many awards doing this including her own car. She opened Highland Heights Boutique in her basement and later moved it to downtown Williston as Jan’s Closet. Her most enjoyable job she had was being a grocery store demo person. She could talk people in to buying almost anything she was demoing. Janice later worked for many years at Kenn Becks Jack and Jill in New Town.

Her spare time was spent going to Bingo and playing Pinochle. In her later years she loved riding the bus and playing Bingo and Pinochle with her friends at the Senior Citizen Center in Williston. She had a love for all card games and loved to win!! She could be found playing many a game of Uno or Texas Hold-em with her family.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially all the Grandchildren and Greats, and also extended special family Kenny and Becky Haugsdal and daughter Saritha; Jeff and Flo Moore and Brenda Daniels . She also had a special caregiver Gloria Cox whom she spent many a morning with while she was living in her home. The family also wants to thank all of her wonderful care givers and friends at Bethel Home and CHI St. Alexius Hospice. She especially loved her Wheatland crew!! Her time with you was not that long but you all made her feel loved and special!

She is survived by her 5 children Cheri (Tore) Johansen of Hermiston, OR; Rick (Janet) Tangedal of Williston, ND; Dean (Frannie) Tangedal of Riverdale, ND; Ginger and Jill Tangedal of Henderson, NV; 7 grandchildren Sue (Speedy) Kuzmik; Shane (Joan) Tangedal; Nate Tangedal, Cassie (Kameron) Plienis; Ashley Tangedal, Skyler Tangedal and Thomas Tangedal. 10 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Marlys Malnaa and Joey Graham, Brothers and Sister in-laws Elton and Yvonne Tangedal, Norman and Lynn Tangedal and Patty Tangedal and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Curtis, her parents, sisters Helen, Thelma, Ellie and Millie, and great grandson Austin Dean Tangedal.

I have loved being a close friend to Janice the last few years....I've known her for years but our paths did not cross much until the last few years. We both liked to play keno, so we would go to Montana and Trenton to get our fill of it. We always had so much fun and laughed all the time....she would always say "is your hootenanny in here", meaning my handicapped sign in the glove compartment of my car! Any time she or myself could not think of the name for something we would call it a hootenanny! Just a silly joke between us. I will miss her so much as she was such a positive person in my life and could always get me laughing when I was down in the dumps. I love you Janice and miss you so much! Your dear friend Judy!

My Tribute to Janice
I have been to Williston four times in the last 27 years to visit Janice. Every time I've been there, I wish I could have stayed longer. She was so much fun and had a lot of good stories to tell.
She loved the photo books I made and gave to her especially the one of our family reunion in July 2012. She will be greatly missed by me and her entire family.
RIP Janice,
"Uncle Dave"

Although it has been years since we visited with Janice (and Curtis), I fondly recall our family visiting/staying overnight at the ND farm(Jill and horse riding), and Janice's visit with our Norwegian relatives in Regina...also fondly remember Ginger's visit and stay with us in Regina many years ago...Remember Janice's laugh and charisma...thinking of your families at this difficult time
