Ben Andrew Johnston
November 23, 1998 - May 7, 2017

Place of Birth: Williston, ND
Residence: Watford City, ND
Age: 18

Ben Johnston, 18, of Watford City, ND, was called home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Watford City. Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Watford is assisting the family.

Ben Andrew Johnston was born November, 23 1998 in Williston, North Dakota to very loving parents Robert and Marlai (Fitzgerald) Johnston. Ben walked in the hands of the Lord, his Savior, and Jesus Christ, on May 7, 2017, at the young age of 18. Loved by many, including his mom, dad, aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, grandparents, cousins, classmates, teachers, and his friends.

Ben was named after his great uncle Ben Johnston and great grandfather Andrew Johnston. Living up to both his great uncle's name’s, being known as a hardworking young man, respectable, caring, and above all treating others the way he wanted to be treated. Being the only child and having no siblings he grew up on his parent’s ranch, taking care of his home that he loved.

He currently attended Watford City High School, where he developed many loving friends and great relations among the staff and teachers of the high school. They said he always walked in the halls with a big smile on his face and a positive attitude. His girlfriend, Ashley Barnett, had a special table that they always ate at for lunch at the school cafeteria. Ben was involved in activities such as welding, mechanics, 4-H and FFA. Ben recently earned the FFA Chapter Degree and was proud to be a member of this organization.

In his short life he made impression on all those who met him. On his bus rides to school, he made many lasting friendships. Ben was always a good listener to both his parents and friends. He was always handy, being able to fix anything and working with the animals around the ranch. He loved driving his truck around the fields, on the road, and sometimes even in circles. His horse, Chester and dog, Cowboy will remain missing Ben’s presence. Ben had big hopes and dreams for his future, but now will forever remain a “Good ol’ boy”.

Proceeding in death are: Morris & Leah (Milkey) Fitzgerald (Great Granparents), Ted & Annie (Helmers) Hansen (Great Grandparents), Elaine (Hansen) Keith (great aunt), Kenny & Tody (Hansen) Johnson (Great uncle & aunt), Eunice (Hansen) Hembree (Great Aunt), Merlyn Ellingson (Great foster uncle), Carroll & Delores (Rehberg) Johnston (paternal grandparents), Ben Johnston (Great-Great Uncle), Albert and Olga (Gegelman) Rehberg (Great Grandparents), Andrew & Leva (Thompson) Johnston (Great Grandparents).

Hard to believe God's plan when He calls home a beautiful young man like Ben. Years ago we bought our first pigs from Ben. He was so proud to show us his new litters and his sellers. We had decided on 5 and ended up with 12. What a circus they were! I also got to see Ben when I substituted at the elementary school. What a fine, courteous, and kind young man. Our hearts are broken too at your loss. Many thoughts and prayers to his family. Ready to help if you need us. Peace.

Dear, Dear Johnston's and Fitzgerald's,
Tonight my heart aches at your loss. I cannot imagine the pain you are now enduring. Please know that you are and will remain in my and our prayers. We are so deeply sorry. Though I did not know Ben, it is obvious that he was a loyal, loving, devoted son and grandson. I know he was a source of joy and pride. He received his best from you, and he gave the gifts of love and understanding that he received to others in abundance. Thank you for giving him all that you gave him.

Words fail at such a time. One risks saying too much. I only hope you can hold one another and be held by those you love.

There is a hymn verse that comes to mind. I offer these words, someone else's words, as a prayer for the days and weeks and months ahead.

"Eternal Lord, your wisdom sees,
And fathoms all life's tragedies.
You know our griefs;
You hear our sighs;
In mercy dry our tear-stained eyes.
From evil times you bring great good.
Beneath the cross we've safely stood.
Though dimly now life's path we trace,
One day we shall see face to face."
("There is a Time for Everything, v. 3)

We will be gone to our daughter's graduation through the weekend, so we will not be able to pay our respects to Ben publicly, but please know that you will remain in our prayers.

Our love to you. Christ's love to you. His blessing be upon you.
Peace be with you. Jay and Andrea Reinke

Thank you so much for giving us the pleasure of being Ben's 3rd grade teacher and school principal. We enjoyed being with Ben in school and especially during times when we could just visit: lunch hour, recess, and walking down the halls. We will miss his smile and gentle ways.

My heart aches for Robert, Marlai and the Johnston family to lose recently in death your precious loved one Ben after just 18 way too short years, way too young, way too soon. When death robs us of someone we love very much, it causes much sadness and grief. Words are so limited that can give comfort, so I would like to share with you a beautiful scripture where Jesus makes us a wonderful promise at John 5:28, which says: "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out..." . Our heavenly father promises us to do away with man's worst enemy, death at Rev. 21: 4 which reads: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore." Isaiah 33:24 guarantees us: "And no resident will say "I am sick," ever again. For more comforting scriptures please visit: http://bit.ly/1K38EFt. It has given me hope, strengthened my faith and helped me find the answer to Why? I know it will do the same for you. God's kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for at Matt. 6: 9, 10 will bring about these wonderful promises including the resurrection. John 6:40 Also, Titus 1: 2 tells us this promise of a resurrection: "is based on a hope of the everlasting life that God, who cannot lie, promised long ago." Isaiah 26:19 "Your dead will live......And the earth will let those powerless in death come to life." Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death forever. For Jehovah himself has spoken it." Jehovah (Psalm 83:18) invites you to throw all your burdens on him and he will sustain you in your time of grief. I offer my sincere condolences to the family. Feel free to contact me at my email address: myranj@centurytel.net May these promises give you hope, comfort and peace in your time of grief.
It will do your heart good to please watch this beautiful video (song 144) entitled "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize" https://tv.jw.org/#en/video/VODChildren/pub-pksn_24_VIDEO
