Dean Noel Brorby
July 29, 1932 - October 14, 2017

Dean Noel Brorby was born July 29, 1932 in Minot, ND to Melvin and Julia (Toso) Brorby. They lived in Velva, ND until 1945 when they moved to Noonan, ND where his dad worked in the coal mines.

Dean served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He took basic training at Camp Chaffey, Arkansas. He then served in Italy and Salsbury Austria. He later worked on building roads and farm work. He went to school to be a life guard and taught many kids in the Noonan area to swim. He loved being with the kids. He started working in the Oil Field in 1958.

He was once married to Lorraine Wells from Noonan. They had four children. In 1961 they moved to Grenora when he operated work over rigs. He and Lorraine divorced in 1969.

Dean purchased the B&G Roustabout with Ray Gorder until 1973. In 1974 he married Dolores (Dee) Brorby in Williston, ND and they made their home in Grenora. He then worked for the Grenora Implement trucking and hauling machinery from the factories all over.

In 1981 he went back to the oil business pumping wells until 1996. When he retired in 1997, Dean and Dee started traveling in a motor home to New Mexico for four years then to Yuma, Arizona until 2016. They had a band and entertained for dances. Dean loved singing and joking with all the people. He had a lot of fun and meeting hundreds of people from all states and Canada. In the summer back in Grenora, he worked for Dennis Peterson on the farm and he was in his glory. He loved farm work and when Dennis retired he continued helping Jason Folvag. When Dean’s health started failing him in 2015 he had to quit working on the farm and could not travel any longer.

Dean served on St. Olaf Council, on Grenora Fire Department. He was a Life Member of the American Legion Post 116 where he was commander for one year.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dee; two sons, John (Tammy) Brorby of Traverse City, MI and Chad (Karen) Brorby of Moorhead, MN; one daughter, Lori Dyer and her friend Todd of Milan, MI; twin brother, Dale (Jean) of Cold Water, MI; step sons, Duane (Theresa) Schaan of Grenora, ND, Doug (Shelley) Schaan of Greeley, CO, Dickson (RaeAnn) Schaan of Williston, ND; step daughter, Darla Moorhead and her friend, Dave Schualtz of Perham, MN; daughter-in-law, Mary Schaan of Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren,4 great grand step grandchildren.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, son, Shane; stepson Dave Schaan, sisters, Violet and Marian and brother Marlyn

Keith & I will always remember how Dean took the time to visit with us, whenever we made it back to Grenora. He always had a joke to share! He will continue to entertain his heavenly friends now. What a reunion he will have! Hugs to you Dee!
