Manford "Butch" Rasmussen
July 18, 1935 - January 11, 2018

Residence: Culbertson, MT

Manford "Butch" Rasmussen, 82, of Culbertson, MT, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 surrounded by his family at the Roosevelt Medical Center in Culbertson. Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Williston is assisting the family.

Manford was born July 18th, 1935 at the family farm north of Culbertson to Walter and Wilhelmina Rasmussen.

He married Shirley Jensen on June 9th, 1957 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church and they were blessed with 2 children, Dean and Julane.

He had polio as a young boy and spent 3 months in the hospital recovering from it and many more months doing rehabilitation. But that did not stop him from doing everything he wanted to do as he was one tough boy. He always told the story about when he and a few others that had polio were in the hospital and would have wheelchair races and even chase the nurses!

Manford was a farmer his entire life until the later years when he retired from farming. He also raised chickens, pigs, horses and cattle. He also did custom combining for many farmers. His favorite time of the year was Harvest. How he loved combining the wheat and hauling it to the bins. He was a mechanic and also an excellent carpenter. He added on to the farm house and built cupboards for many people. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and many weekends were spent fishing and camping at various lakes. He enjoyed playing pool and won many pool tournaments. He loved reading and many times you could find him sitting in his recliner by the window with a book in his hand. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren for rides in his ranger.

Manford’s passing has left a huge sadness in all of our lives. He will be greatly missed. We take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his family and loved ones who made the journey before him knowing that we will see him again, all in God’s time. He is now pain free and not suffering.

Manford was preceded in death by his father, Walter; his mother, Wilhelmina; brother, Norman and sisters, Helen and Wilma.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; his son, Dean Rasmussen (Maxine); daughter, Julane Poland; granddaughter, Erin Solem (David); grandson, Jared Poland (Charity); grandson, Colter Stradinger (Sassy); granddaughter, Karissa Rasmussen; and great grandchildren, Carson Solem, Brooks Solem, Flint Solem and Kendal Poland. He is also survived by his sister, Janet McNett and numerous nieces and nephews.

So sorry for your family's loss. I pray that you can find comfort in the Bible's promise of a resurrection to life. John 5:28-29 says: "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life...." Surely something to look forward too! To learn more, please visit JW.org. There you can read the Bible online and read articles that will bring you comfort.

So sorry for your loss, Erin and family! Going to miss seeing Butch in the hallways of RMC. He always had a smile on his face and I knew I could strike up a conversation anytime for a good time! Thinking about you and the family in this time of sorrow!

Thank you to the family for allowing me to care for Butch in his days at RMC. I loved Butch very much and he is so missed. I find solace in knowing he is at peace--no more hurt. He is now able to do and go how and where he wants to. Shirley and Julane...you two were the most devoted family members I have ever seen, I don't think you ever missed a day of not coming to visit him--how admirable and how loving! God bless you, and the family.
