Douglas "Chez" Leon Stevens
October 19, 1961 - January 29, 2018

Place of Birth: Williston, ND
Residence: Williston,ND
Age: 56

Doug “Chez” Stevens, 56, of Williston, ND, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Williston.

Doug was born October 19, 1961 in Williston, ND to Art and JoAnn Stevens. He grew up with his five siblings in Trenton, ND where he graduated in 1979.

After high school he jumped right into his skills as a mechanic and started his career at Bomac Drilling in 1979. He then spent twenty-two years at Oneok and the last seven years he spent traveling the country with ECOAFS as a Bi-fuel diesel technician.

During Doug’s younger adult years, he loved watching his little brother, Darwin race motocross and was his biggest supporter. He would travel the country to watch him compete. Doug was an integral part of Darwin’s motocross career making sure he had a motorcycle to ride.

Doug had a strong love of family. He would spend many hours out at the family farm tending to its aging house and property. He made sure to leave a remarkable legacy for his children and grandchildren to enjoy long after he is gone. He loved every moment spent with his two daughters; Amanda and Alexa, and his three grandchildren; Keegan, Kamryn and Avery. They were all the light of his life. Whatever he was doing, where ever he was at, if they needed anything he would drop everything to be there for them. Every morning he was in town, Doug would make special trips to get coffee and chocolate milk for his family.

Doug enjoyed building his Budweiser trophies for anyone who would ask, and for his golf tournaments and parties he took so much pride in organizing. His favorite pastimes were golfing, nascar racing and watching Bison football.

He loved to print birthday cards and fun pictures of his friend’s children, graduation pictures, reunion pictures and refrigerator magnets.

Many people called Doug by his nickname, Chez. While you may all wonder where it came from, it is best left unexplained.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and JoAnn Stevens and his buddy Kevin Corcoran.

Doug leaves behind his two daughters, Amanda (Steven) Simard and Alexa Stevens; his three grandchildren; Keegan, Kamryn and Avery; three brothers, David (Kathy), Dennis (Sandee) and Darwin (Debbie); a sister, DeEtta (Laurel) and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug also leaves behind his best friend, Troy Bakken who was like a brother to him and countless number of friends.

Dennis, Darwin, and the rest of the Stevens Family,
Doug was in the purest sense a genuine “best friend” to many. For me, today, and always Doug will be considered my best friend! The two of us had so many great times together! I still smile thinking back on the memories! When I taught my own children about friendship, I taught them that a true friend is good person that will not hesitate to help them out or do a favor for them. Without question, Doug is the basis for this belief. I was truly blessed and privileged to have Doug as my friend so early in my life.

Doug was not only a great employee and customer, he was a good friend. He was someone that I trusted, admired, and respected. When I needed a little boost, i would go talk to Doug. Seemed like he could make people feel better just having a little conversation. All thru life you find special people and Doug was one of them. He was hard working, intelligent, fair, and honest. My heart goes out to his family that he loved very much. I will miss you buddy.

There is a lot to say, but I will share some. You are a great man who put others before himself. You are tough, but with a loving side for people around you.

My son has a grandpa who will always watch over him and keep him on a path to be the best person possible. You have two amazing daughters with awesome grandchildren who you mean the world to, who will always love an miss you.

I remember when we met all those years ago. You told me if I was to see your daughter I’d need to meet you. I was intimidated for sure. You were surprised I came forward so quick or even at all. It was respect both ways, and over time I experienced how incredible of a person you are. I’m thankful I did that.

The best day of my life was when Avery came into the world. I have this photo of you holding him for the first time that day. Seeing the pure joy on your face is something I won’t forget. It chokes me up now, but I am proud you are his grandfather. I also appreciate everything you have done for Avery, Alexa, Amanda, Keegan, Kamryn, family, and friends. Truly will miss you Doug, we all will. May you rest easy as you watch over everyone.
