Visitation
Friends may call at the Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home Chapel in Williston from 9:00 AM until 5 PM on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 and at the church one hour prior to services.

Service
In keeping with Butch’s wishes cremation has taken place.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston, ND. Pastor David Maxfield will officiate.

Morris Troy "Butch" McManus, Jr. passed away on May 10, 2018 in his sleep. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, he was the son of Morris and Fannie McManus. He attended school in Lake Charles. Butch started working on offshore oil rigs when he was 19, and followed his rigs around the world, before moving to the Williston Basin in the early 80’s.

He had the pleasure of working for numerous companies over 50 years and thoroughly enjoyed the people he met. His greatest pride was his family and sharing their accomplishments. Anyone who met Butch knew he loved to tell stories, many times weaving in 3 or 4 more before finishing the first. Butch loved to hunt and fish, taking one of the largest bears in Canada with a bow.

Butch is survived by his wife, MaryBeth; his sons, Jacob (Kaycee) Lee and Bryce Lee, his sister, Martha; his brother, Bob and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Cathy and brother-in-law, Edward.

Mary Beth and family,
My condolences in the passing of Butch. He topped my short list of most memorable company men and oilfield characters. We drilled seven wells for Conoco in the badlands many years ago. Butch started his day receiving my mud report before daylight. He usually had a story to tell over his morning cup of coffee. The topics were limitless, sometimes informative, sometimes humorous, often far-fetched, and I usually couldn't wait to get back to town to pass along what Butch said that morning.

We sometimes met again in later years when we both worked in the Gulf of Mexico. We enjoyed several breakfasts in the Denver airport on our way to separate jobs. I always enjoyed reconnecting and hearing stories, both new and old.

Despite the tales he told and the adventures he engaged in, he did his job well, and he was open to discuss ideas to do the job more efficiently and make our efforts more productive.

Butch will be remembered fondly.

Sorry to hear about my oilfield buddy Butch. I do have lots of stories about a guy who had a heart as big as he was. To make it short, my 20 minute sales stop was more like 3 hours. Some of the meals and nightly entertainment did get a little carried away. He was aa great friend and is definitely one of the oilfield legends. No matter where I went our salespeople knew Butch. And had a story to tell. Mary Beth, Butch and you are special people to Leah and I and we will always remember you both for your friendship and kind respectful nature toward us.(and of course Leah's student in Plaza)

Bryce grew up so fast,,,yesterday he was climbing on the counter top at the rig wearing dad's hard hat.. now he's mom's security blanket.

Love you all and will pray for your strength and patience for the coming years..

All the guys who have worked with Butch all said they same thing, he was a wonderful man, hard worker, and a talker. Everyone has been exchanging stories and I wanted to reach out to the family and let them know how much Butch was respected and loved. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends.
