Michael J. “Mike” was born on August 9, 1955, in Sidney, MT the son of Guy D. and Shirley Ann (Chadderdon) Severson. He grew up and attended schools in Sidney graduating from Sidney Senior High School in 1974. After graduation, Mike started working for his dad, Guy, at the Ranger Lounge, whether it was making popcorn, or hauling beer, even counting money. While counting money, they started to learn the trade of collecting coins together, which Mike carried on until his death. He also became a collector of numerous items. Mike was united in marriage to Vickie Smith in 1978, in Sidney, MT. They had three children, Melissa, Mike, and Randy. In 1991, Mike bought the Ranger Lounge from his father, Guy. He eventually took the Ranger from a small bar into a restaurant and casino, and through many other phases keeping up with the changing times and trends. As Mike ran the bar he made many friends and has shared numerous stories and laughs with all of us. Over the years, Mike owned a few different businesses, even a roller skating rink that eventually burned down.
Mike was a member of the Peoples Congregational Church in Sidney, the Bar and Restaurant Association of Sidney, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, NRA, Montana Tavern Association, and Walleyes Unlimited. Mike was always willing to help and support many of the community organizations whether he was a member or not. They include, AAU wrestling, Richland Baseball, Richland Youth Hockey, SHS athletic program, the Boys and Girls Club, and many more. In the early years, he spent a lot of time hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening with his friends.
We lost Mike, outstanding member of our family and community, on Monday, June 11, 2018, at his home in Sidney.

I’ll never forget the Burger Palace days and all the parties after closing time. We grew up fast and even though life led us down separate paths, we shared more than just the same birthday for so many fun-filled years. We never lost touch until now. Returning to Sidney won’t be the same for me anymore without being able to look you up at the Ranger and catch up on stories. Rest easy my lifelong friend.

Mike was special to me. I actually babysat him, mainly to help him do homework. Shirley and Guy were good friends of my parents. When he married Vicky they lived next to my folks. I was able to watch Melissa, Randy and Mike Jr. Grow up. The last few years I have not returned as much to Sidney. Still remember my dad and Guy getting into all sorts of fixes.
