Merle Lillian Daley of Watford City, North Dakota passed away Wednesday June 20, 2018 just over a month before her 90th birthday.
Merle was born in Grassy Butte, ND to immigrant parents, John Stashuk of the Ukraine in Russia and Zena Zewick Stashuk of Romania on August 1, 1928. She married Floyd Daley on May 24, 1950 at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Floyd Daley on January 25, 2015.
Merle was a championship golfer winning the North Dakota state women’s golf tournament at age 50. She was involved with the Watford City golf course for decades. She traveled and volunteered at PGA golf tournaments and met the top golfers of the world. Merle has numerous signed golf memorabilia of both men and women golfers. For many years Merle planted and maintained the flower beds at the golf course and was very proud of her flower bed at the old post office building on Main Street. Merle enjoyed spending time at the lake with family and friends. Merle and Floyd also spent many years during the winter in Arizona.
Merle is survived by two sons, David of Hot Springs, S.D. and Ron Daley of Hazard, KY; and daughters Cheryl Enderud of Dickinson, ND and Sandra (Miles) Wollan of Watford City,ND; sisters Agnes Murray and Violet Vick; and half brothers Frank, Larry, Lawrence, and Roger Trout.
Merle is survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren who she worshipped: Matt (Amy) and Paul (Theresa) Daley; Travis (Kristen) Wollan; Brandon Wollan, Heather (Jim) Luchi, Heidi (Aaron) Trauger, Ryan Enderud, Derek (Jessica) Enderud, Marci (Russ) Murphy, and Nicole (Scott) Crampton; and 20 great grandchildren.
Merle is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; parents, John and Zena Stashuk, and stepfather Fred Trout; brother s Joe Stashuk and Victor Stashuk, sisters Lily Miller and Rose Benn; and half brother Joey Trout; and daughter-in-law’s Amy and Deborah Daley, and son-in-law Rick Enderud, and grandson Curtis Floyd Daley.
Merle remained a bundle of energy until the end and even made a call from the emergency room apologized for missing a bridge game. She had a zest for life and she worked hard all of her life while making many friends in several states along the way.
