(Curtis) Dwain Newnam was born November 8, 1934 to Charles and Fern (Willett) Newnam on the family farm n ear Palermo, N.D. He passed away peacefully in his sleep August 14, 2018 at his home.
As a child Dwain attended Dymond School and graduated the 8th grade June 10, 1949. He then went to two years of high school in Stanley.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1952 and served active duty until 1957. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean conflict. He then served in the reserve unit until 1959. Upon returning from the service he farmed, ranched and worked in the oil fields as a driller. He held other jobs throughout the years such as a mechanic, trucker, and did seismograph and demolition work on elevators.
He enjoyed reading and watching old westerns. At one time he had his pilots’ license and enjoyed flying his plane. He was proud to be a Veteran and enjoyed visiting with fellow Vets, especially his daily phone calls with his best friend, Ron, who sadly passed away in January.
Dwain was a member of the Williston American Legion, Moose Lodge, Color Guard and past VFW member. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Dwain was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Alvin and Iris. He is survived by his companion of 26 years, Sharry Hagen; her children Molly, Kari, Larry; six step grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
