Some of the things Doug most enjoyed were fishing and camping at McKenzie Bay, White Earth and New Town. Doug enjoyed his annual fishing trip with the guys to Fresno Reservoir in Montana. He also enjoyed playing darts at local, state and National levels. You could always be sure that Doug had his darts and would be willing to challenge the best of the best.

Doug enjoyed spending time with his children Tyler and Janaya. He actively followed Tyler during his high school sporting events. He loved spending time hunting and fishing with Tyler and Janaya. He cherished spending his weekends with Janaya, and one of their favorite past times was making donuts with Papa Jim. He had a great love for cooking, some of his specialties were ribs and fish. Doug also had a love for good ole’ country music and would spend the night spinning around the dance floor.

Doug was loved by many and his infectious smile and laugh will be missed. Couldn't meet a nicer guy than Dougie. One of the best memories I have, is when Cindy ran the American Legion in Watford City, my Dad Jeff Nelson and I were singing and there was Doug singing his heart out on the dance floor and dancing away! Doug was always good for a big 'ol hug and story of some adventure or fishing trip he'd been on. He only takes the best!

So very sorry to hear of Doug's passing, I have some great memories of working with Doug at Hess. Especially the time when we were treated to a fishing tourny and steak feed by Cary Longie and Doug caught the biggest walleye out of all the guys that day.

My thoughts and prayers are with all family and friends. My heart breaks for Doug’s passing and for the void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Although I lost touch with Doug, memories are imprinted in my heart and mind. Knowing he is gone, just makes these memories more precious.

I pray that in time there will be understanding, peace and memories to fill the void for all that love Doug.

My thoughts & prayers go out to the family. Many years ago, I met Doug Fixen at the North Dakota Water Pollution & Control Conference. I was working the registration desk and he struck up a conversation. Then, through the Conference, we had several very nice visits. He seemed like the type of person you had known for years, even though you had just met. Wonderful man! May God Comfort the family during this journey!
