Dwayne Turnquist
January 11, 1940 - October 1, 2018

Place of Birth: Sidney, Montana
Residence: Rural Arnegard, ND
Age: 78

Dwayne Turnquist, 78, of rural Arnegard, ND, passed away early Monday, October 1, 2018 at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston. Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Watford City is assisting the family.

Dwayne Oscar Turnquist was born January 11, 1940 in Sidney, Montana to Carl and Gertrude (Kummer) Turnquist. Dwayne was raised on the family farm in rural Arnegard where he later farmed and ranched.

Dwayne was baptized and confirmed at Zoar Lutheran Church in Arnegard. He attended Red Wing School and graduated from Arnegard Public School in 1958.
On January 15, 1965, Dwayne married Cleone Tweden in Watford City, ND. Dwayne and Cleone raised two children, Wayne and Lorie. He loved working with his wife and family on the farm and being with his children who were the light of his life.

Dwayne was a simple, hardworking and thoughtful husband and father. It was not unusual for him to pick flowers on his way home to Cleone or randomly purchase a gift that she might think was pretty. After Cleone retired, the two of them enjoyed working and riding their side by sides. Most of all, they loved spending time with their family on the farm.

Dwayne was no stranger to hard work, whether it was farming, cattle work or caring for his family, he treasured every minute of it. He took great pride in working with his family on the farm; moving cows, branding and fixing fences were all in a day’s work for him. Dwayne enjoyed playing pinochle with family and friends, hunting the Badlands, trying his luck at the casino and listening to his wife’s family band the Jolly O’s.

Dwayne was very community minded person and served on many boards, including the Zoar Lutheran Church Council. He was a member of the Wilmington Lutheran Church and McKenzie County Grazing Association.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cleone; his parents; brothers, Gerald and Carl “Benny”; sisters, Cecilia, Julia and Alma; and brothers-in-law, Gerald and Ordean.

Dwayne is survived by his children; Wayne of Williston, ND and Lorie (Nathan) Hillstad of Epping, ND; brother, Eugene (Sharian) Turnquist of Watford City, ND; sisters-in-law, Faye (Bob) Gudmunsen of Arnegard, ND, Carol (Sidney) Moore of Franklin, Ohio and Lynn Tweden of Watford City, ND; brother-in-law, Dale (Mary) Tweden of Parker, CO; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful furry companion, Sugar.

Memorial Contribution
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made in Dwayne's name to Wilmington Cemetery Fund or Zoar Cemetery Fund in Arnegard, ND.

Wayne and Lorie, My deepest sympathies for your loss. Every memory I have of branding and cattle work includes your dad steadfast with the iron and always willing to help me hold the calf. Both your parents were good examples of hard work leads to joy and many friends. They both are missed.
