Gary E. Evenson was born January 2, 1947 in Stanley, ND to Edwin and Olga Evenson. He was raised and attended school in Stanley until graduation in 1965.

He married Cynthia Slemin and later they divorced. From that marriage a daughter, Amy was born.

Gary married Susan Schwark on August 5, 1983, adding daughter, Jennifer to his family, plus the welcome addition of son, Douglas in April 1984. They truly did have a yours, mine and ours marriage with these three children with lots of challenges and joy through the 35 years since.

Gary was always a “go-getter” from a young age, mowing lawns, working at Dakota Drug and later working for Ranums Laundromat, until starting with the City of Stanley’s sanitation department. He worked in that capacity for 38 years, retiring in 2010 due to colon cancer from which he was declared cancer free in the fall of 2017.

Even though retired he did yard work, cut hedges, driving around in “Old Green” picking up trash or being there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Gary loved to visit with friends and family and he loved his hometown. He leaves his mark on this world with the love he gave his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He was always happy when family was with him and cared deeply for his family, extended family and friends.

His final battle with cancer began in April of 2018. This cancer was not related to colon cancer, but a more aggressive, fast growing and deadly kind with no chance of recovery.

Gary went to his Lord’s arms on October 8, 2018 and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Gary is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Doug (Bressha) Evenson of Sharon, ND; daughters, Jenn Hardy of Casper, WY, Amy Kulstad, special daughter Luann (Dan) Robert of Minot, ND; eleven grandchildren, Trevor Criss, Deja Criss, Amya Shropshire, Damien Evenson, Ryot Evenson, Garrett Ferrell, Tiare (Jason) Muessman, Jamie Evanson, Myles Kulstad, Ashton Kulstad, Drew Roberts; great grandson, Patrick Muessman; sisters, Colleen Carruth of Buena Park, CA, Darlene VanDaele of Hardin, MT, Shirley Hutchins and Dot Wamre, both of Williston, ND . He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and many friends.

He is preceded in death by parents, Edwin and Olga Evenson; brothers, Everett, William, Clarence and Terry; mother and father-in-law, T.C. and Alice McCartney, brothers-in-law, Dave Carruth and Henry (Hank) VanDaele
