It Is Our Privilege And Purpose To Serve You
Alfred B. Brown
February 9, 1941 - December 26, 2018

Place of Birth: McKenzie County, ND
Residence: Watford City, ND
Age: 77

Alfred was born at home on February 9, 1941 in McKenzie County. He attended Dodge School. He left high school to start his oil field career, driving truck for Lawrence Brothers. He also drove grain truck, hot oil truck, and various other oil field duties. He then went on to the drilling rigs where he worked for years until he, his brother, Lloyd, and mentor, Irvin Noftsker, started their own fishing tool business. One of his favorite pastimes was sharing stories of adventures on the drilling rigs with his old crew.
Alfred helped to establish the McKenzie County Bank where he served on the Board for 30 years and was involved in the Investment Club. Alfred, his brother, Lloyd, and Dennis Johnson, enjoyed their single engine airplane. One of his favorite quotes was “all of North Dakota is a landing strip”. He loved doing yard work on his property south of town. He always dreamed of being a farmer, but worked in the oil field so he could afford it. You frequently could find Al feeding various kinds of wildlife, like deer, birds, & squirrels. His favorite was a squirrel he named Peanut.
Alfred was very active in the Watford City Wesleyan Church. He led Lay Witness Missions, and had a passion for introducing people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
His greatest passion was to know God in His fullness and become more Christ-like in all areas of his life, which impacted every person with whom he came in contact. Proverbs 20:7 “The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them” (NLT).
Alfred passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at the McKenzie County Health Service, Watford City, ND.
Surviving him are: his wife, Joanne Brown, Watford City, ND; his son, Gary (Cheryl) Brown, Watford City, ND; his daughter, Donna (Dwayne) Keener, Minot Air Force Base, ND; his brothers, Larry Brown, Hettinger, ND, Harry Brown, Clarissa, MN, and Dean Brown, Watford City, ND; his sisters, Barb Welsh, Milaca, MN, Marvel Ritzke, Watford City, ND, Marjory Crawford, Anamoose, ND, Ramoma Odegard, Bismarck, ND, and Karen Trudeau, St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Our sweet Alfred, we miss you so much already. In the short time we got to spend with you, you captured our entire staff's hearts. We loved to listen to you read the Bible to the other residents sitting around you, we loved our daily games of ball in the hallways, and most importantly we just loved you! You were such a kindhearted, gentle man who wanted nothing more than to just help out any of our residents or the staff however you could. Your love of the Lord showed no boundaries, and we are at peace knowing you are now up in Heaven rejoicing with him.

Joanne, Gary, Donna and the rest of the family: you are in our constant thoughts and we are lifting you up in our prayers. Thank you for sharing Alfred with us, we will cherish the time we had together with him always. We love you all!

Dear Browns,
A very dear friend has gone to be with God and we have mixed feelings about it but God needed a very special man in heaven. I am so thankful we got to know Al and Joanne real well when we lived in WC from l964 to l975 and our kids got to know each other too.
He was a true man of God and wanted all to know Jesus and accept Him. I got to go on man y Lay Witness Missions with them and times I will never forget and treasure. He could quote almost any Bible verse you asked Him for ! He loved Joanne deeply and it showed! God bless all his family. Love, Stulls

To Al’s family: I know this, Heaven Is Sounding Sweeter All The Time. No better friend could anyone have. Al and I roughnecked together on different rigs. But same time same company. Noble Drilling. We loved sharing stories. I will never forget the time I rode down the ski slope on Alfred’s back! What a week end that was. John Melby has been waiting for his friend Alfred. I will always remember the times when Al would call me up and he would tell me it is time we flew to Williston for our Dairy Queen. He’d swing by my office and away we would go. Dairy Queen!
I pray God’s closeness to you at this time.

I am eternally grateful for Alfred's obedience to the Lord. Because of his faith we came to know Jesus as our personal Savior. Memories with Al and Joanne and family....are priceless. He compels me to finish the race...to stand strong in the Lord. To love well and honor God above all else. Thankyou for your life examples. For always being there for us. Til we meet again...

I never had the pleasure of knowing Alfred personally. What I do know is what I heard through many, including his son Gary, that he was a humble man of God. Full of love putting others before himself. I believe he was welcomed home with, “Well done faithful servant.”
