Place of Birth: Rural South Heart, ND

Elizabeth “Betty” Kudrna, 86, of Stanley, ND, more recently of Minot, ND, passed away, Monday, February 11, 2019 at Trinity Health Center in Minot, ND.

Betty was born at home on February 21, 1932 to Anton and Rose (Sadowsky) Volesky near South Heart, ND. She married Don Kudrna on November 10, 1952. They had been married for 62 years when Don passed away in 2015. After raising their six children she went to work in the school cafeteria for several years and did most of the wood finishing for Don’s woodworking projects. For many years Betty volunteered at the church, teaching CCD, tending to the flowers and cooking for the priests, with her friend Angie. Together they were often referred to as the “church ladies”. She loved her flowers and took pride in growing geraniums from seed. She was an expert quilter and made over 70 quilts. Betty spent the last year and a half at Edgewood Vista in Minot, where she thrived in that environment. The thing that brought her the greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will most be remembered for her love of faith and family.

Betty is survived by children, Galen (Kelly) Kudrna of Stanley, Kathy (Rod) Johnson of Plaza, Gerry (Mike) Linster of Fargo, Lauri (Mike) Hynek of Stanley, Ron (Julie) Kudrna of Pensacola Beach, FL, Becky (Wade) Huus of Minot; grandchildren, Carrie Standlee, Jody (Aaron) Enget, Kevin Johnson, Josh (Stephanie) Johnson, Jennifer (Tim) Helmer, Jill (Jason) Sobolik, Tom (Carolyn) Linster, Brad Linster, Blair (Carol) Hynek, Joe (Amanda) Hynek, Charlie, Olivia and Sam Kudrna, Abigail, Sophia, Seth, Max and Amelia Huus; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Taylor Standlee, Preslee, Halle, Riley and Trygve Enget, Parker, Brady and Lennon Johnson, Esmae and Ryker Helmer, Lucas, Reed and Donovan Sobolik, Paige, Kenna and Maren Linster, Jack, Ben, Jacob, Abe and Ella Hynek, Trinity, Tessa and Everett Hynek; brother, Florian (Gladys) Volesky; sister, Rose Marie Kovash; brothers-in-law, Andrew Kudrna and Glenn (Katrina) Kudrna; sisters-in-law, Tillie Volesky, Evelyn Volesky and Verna Chorne.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents, Anton and Rose; siblings, Robert, Mary, Elsie, Frances, Ben, Raymond, Joseph and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

We were saddened to hear of Aunt Betty’s passing. The world would be much better off if we all possessed the positive, caring attitude she had. She was always a pleasure to talk to. May God be with you during these difficult days.

Kudrna Family, we were saddened to read about Betty’s passing. May the many fond memories of her sustain you during this most difficult time. We pray that you find comfort in our Creator’s words, in which he promises to soon reunite us with our beloved ones in a perfect world, where the causes of pain and sorrow will be a thing of the past. How exciting it will be to see her doing all things she loved. (Isa 25:8; Rev. 21:4) Our sincere condolences to all of you.
