It Is Our Privilege And Purpose To Serve You
Bernice Ellen Haugen
March 5, 1951 - May 6, 2019

Place of Birth: Williston, ND
Residence: Williston, ND formerly of rural Grenora, ND,
Age: 68

Bernice Haugen, 68, long time resident of Grenora, more recently of Williston, ND passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at Bethel Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Williston. Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Williston is assisting the family.

Bernice Ellen was born on March 5, 1951 to Arnold and Clara (Haug) Hendrickson in Grenora, North Dakota. She was raised and attended school in Grenora. At a young age she found a love for music, spending hours playing her keyboard and listening to music.

Bernice was united in marriage to Dennis Haugen and to this union two children were born, Steven and Lee Ann.

In Bernice’s younger years, she enjoyed going camping and spending time at Blacktail Dam. Being the avid fisherwoman she was, you would find her shore fishing in the summer and ice fishing in the winter, always baiting her own hooks. She looked forward to entering the annual Devils Lake Winter Ice Fishing Derby.

Spending time with family and friends was very important to Bernice. She loved cruising the countryside with her sweetheart John, by her side. They enjoyed going to different casinos and trying their luck at the slot machines. Bernice and John shared the love of gardening and both were able to grow large produce, pumpkins and carrots being their favorite.

In December of 2015, Bernice entered Bethel Nursing Home as her health started to fail and John was unable to care for her at home. Her health did not stop her from doing what she enjoyed doing. She continued to attend the special events, playing and winning numerous games of Bingo, dancing and teaching others the latest dance moves. This past month Bernice’s heart was broken when John, the love of her life, passed away. They are now united once again.

Bernice is survived by brothers, Howard (Marilyn) Hendrickson of Williston, ND., Orville (MaryLou) Hendrickson of Plentywood, MT., Carrolle (Dori) Hendrickson of Williston, ND.; sisters, MaryAnn (Ken) LePage of Worden, MT., Alice Erickson of Plentywood, MT., Dorothy (David) Blomberg of Williston, ND., Evelyn (Roy) Simonson of Dagmar, MT., Sylvia (Gary) Haven of Grenora, ND., Pearl (Ernie) Haven of Dickinson, ND., and Judy (Bob) Bergeron of Williston, ND., and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Clara; stepmother, Alice; son, Steven; daughter, Lee Ann; brother, Gene and Arlyn; brothers-in-law, Erling Haven, John Cartwright and Dennis Erickson; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hendrickson and Pearl Hendrickson; nieces, Barbra Hendrickson and Doreen Erickson; nephews, DuWayne Erickson, Daniel Blomberg and Jay LePage; and her sweetheart, John Haugen.
Thank You
The family would like to thank the Staff at Bethel Lutheran Home for making Bernice feel welcome and the wonderful care she received. Also, Dr. Siewert and the staff at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Williston for their care. We are so grateful for the support that was provided to Bernice and her family.

Condolences to all of Bernice"s family. I had many good times with Bernice throughout her lifetime. Some in Grenora when we walked to school together about every day in "68" and "69", some at the Haugen farm, quite a few at the Nine Mile Bar with all the friends of hers and mine, birthday celebrations and can't leave out the Moose. I will always cherish her and the memories we had. She loved people and she was loved by so many. She is now with her children who she loved so much. She will never be forgotten Every time I would see Bernice , she would ask about her God Child who is Scott Haugen my son. She is in the Lord's hands now and she will be all healed and loved so much. You sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and families are in my prayers. REST IN PEACE BERNICE
With Love, Wendy Haugen

Auntie Bernice will always be remembered for her love of hugs and asking us how we were doing. She could spend hours looking at cards finding just the “perfect” one for her loved ones. Here’s hoping she is waltzing across the heavenly skies.

John and Bernice were one of a kind people. They truly enjoyed each-other's company. I met them when I was in my early teens helping host a bus trip to Deadwood. Those characters were running laps in the casinos amongst the younger generation. From then on Bernice always had a big hug and a "Hey sweetie!" while John stood aside wearing his giant grin with a "Hello!". Sad they're gone from this Earth, but happy they are together again!
