I am so sad to learn of Mr. Emily’s passing. He is a true Richland County Icon! I always enjoyed our visit at the Fairview Old Settlers Reunion! What a buddy he was. I always marveled at the generosity the Sheriff of Richland County did to honored him with an honor to be an active Sheriff Deputy Icon! He was so proud! Thank You!

Gene: Thanks for serving as a special agent for the Richland County Sheriffs Department while I was an officer of the department, and for the many hours we had coffee together. You can now rest for a job well done, officer Emily. Your friend and fellow officer Marv Johnson

I can't hold back the tears. Gene you will be missed by so many. You were my friend! You always cheered me up. Give me a feeling of strength when I was down, a feeling of appreciation that life was a lot better than I was thinking. If I seen you town I immediately would stop by to hear you tell the local news. Gene you will be so deeply missed and have been through your end-of-life journey. You are with Jesus now, a new young man. God is forever our future of youth, no pain and no more tears!

He definitely fit the description of Patriot. He not only felt it his duty to "patrol" his community, he did it with pride. Rest easy young man. God has aquire one of the best of us.

I started teaching at Fairview High School in the fall of 1972. Gene was in elementary school there. He got to know everyone, and was a burst of sunshine when he showed up to greet me. What a blessing he was to all who knew him.

It was an honor to get to know you, sir.
I got the notice of your passing while I was out of town and it hurt that I could not be there for your service, I’m sure it was beautiful.
We met at the Richland County Sheriff’s Office (I think you were already a fixture when I arrived).
I really enjoyed your sense of humor and dedication.
I was very proud to call you a friend and coworker. I appreciated it when you rode on my campaign float in the Fairview Old Timers parade.
Your large heart will be greatly missed. ??
