Donald Lawrence Damm was born on November 28, 1940, to John and Christina (Brese) Damm in Poplar, MT. They lived with his father’s family before moving to the Smith place. They started with cattle, chickens, and farming. They later moved to the Badt place and continued ranching and farming. In 1947, they moved one mile north of Culbertson, MT where Donald grew up and started school. Donald graduated from high school on May 23, 1960. In September of 1960, he enlisted in the Army National Guard doing his basic training in Fort Ord, California and was honorably discharged in 1966.
Donald worked summers at the gas station and the local truck stop in the evenings in Culbertson, MT and he bartended for a few years at the local bars. Donald also worked in his uncle shop and drove bus for him. He then worked for the A.S.C. office measuring grain bins and land. Donald was married in 1969 and divorced in 1979. To this union they had two sons, Brian and Jason. In 1979, Donald started working for Standard Oil in Sidney, MT. He switched employers to Fedora Inc., then Vision, and later for Ferrellgas, all these were propane business. In 2002, he retired and continued living in Sidney, MT.
Donald enjoyed his family, fishing, and doing his family history book.
Donald was found dead at his home in Sidney, MT on Friday, June 3, 2016.
Surviving him are: his sons, Brian Damm, Billings, MT and Jason (Katie) Damm, Fargo, ND; his two grandchildren, Caden and Caleigh; his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, his sister, Loretta Ranch, his brother-in-law, Daryl Ranch, and his nephew, Kevin Ranch.
