Stanford Johnson
April 19, 1932 - June 19, 2016

Residence: Tioga, ND

Stanford Johnson, 84, of Tioga, ND, died Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Tioga Medical Center. His funeral arrangements are with Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Tioga.

Stanford Lamar Johnson was born April 19, 1932 in Karlstad, Minnesota to Eugene and Thilda (Trauny)) Johnson where he was baptized, confirmed and educated.

In 1953 he was drafted into the US army from which he was honorably discharged in 1955.

On September 19, 1956 Stanford was united in marriage to Myrtle Tesch in Tioga, North Dakota; to this union 3 children were born. Myrtle passed away October 2012.

Stanford was a much loved custodian at Tioga’s Hillcrest Elementary and later Central Elementary for 49 years. He enjoyed his work keeping the school neat and tidy.

After his retirement you could still find Stanford keeping things neat and tidy at home; clearing snow from the sidewalk and driveway and keeping the yard well groomed. Stanford liked to keep busy.

Stanford (and Myrtle) loved to be around children and was known by many as “grandpa”.

Stanford was a soft spoken, kind and gentle man that will be sorely missed.

Stanford is survived by his daughter Eileen, sons Earl and Cory, all of Tioga, grandchildren Jenny, Jason, Allen, Jonathan, Jody, Josh, Chris and Sara, several great-grandchildren; youngest brother Curtis and many nieces and nephews.

Stanford was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle, his parents, brothers Junior, Jerry and Miles and infant sister Genevie, and granddaughter Jessica Johnson.

I remember in grade school at hillcrest, we had to write a letter of appreciation. I wrote mine to mr. Johnson and left it on his custodian cart. He was so nice and I have thought of him often over the years.
