Lisa Barkie, 47, of Watford City, ND, passed away Tuesday evening, December 13, 2016 at the Regions Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

Lisa (Berg) Barkie, 47, of Watford City, ND, passed away on December 13th, 2016 in St. Paul, MN. Lisa was born May 10th, 1969, in Williston, North Dakota to Karen Faye (Sondrol) Berg and Alfred (Herman) Berg of Watford City. She attended elementary school in Watford City for a few years and then was home tutored by Julie Skurupey through her graduation in 1988. She went on to college at UND-Williston where she earned an associate degree in business. She went on to work at several different jobs including eight years in the office at the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City.

Lisa met Douglas Arnold Barkie in 1991 and they were married December 18, 1993. They were blessed with a daughter, Anika Karren, on December 26, 2000. Lisa loved being a wife and mother and was so proud to homeschool their daughter. She enjoyed being involved at her church, Watford City Assembly of God. She typed the bulletin for years, did supply ordering, stocked the kitchen, helped with cleaning, preparing snacks for VBS, and Bible study.

She loved spending time with family, friends, and her beloved Shih Tzu dog Sophie Ann, who was like a second baby to her. Little Sophie Ann followed her around like a shadow. Lisa looked forward choosing flowers for and planting her many flower pots each spring. She loved the holidays and planning parties for her family and friends. She liked decorating her home, was an excellent cook, and an avid reader.

Lisa was also known for her “Bug-Bites” stories on Facebook. She had a good sense of humor and enjoyed writing about the funny mishaps of everyday life including “Big Daddy.” She had a special way with the little ones in the family and gave them her undivided attention. She liked traveling with her husband, daughter, and dogs. Lisa passed away December 13, 2016 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.

She is survived by her husband Doug and daughter Anika of Watford City; step daughter LaTisha (Corey) Deutsch of Bloomington, MN; step son Damion (Ashley) Barkie of Williston, ND; step grandchildren Isla, Lilia, and Graadin;, parents Al and Karen of Watford City, ND; sister Tanya (Lynn) Heiser and their children Marlie, Evan, Braden, and Halie of Watford City, ND; and numerous other nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Hilman and Bernice Berg and maternal grandparents Dorothy and Ernest Sondrol.

Lisa was one of the dearest souls I have ever known. My heart is broken for the family that is left behind but rejoices for Lisa who is in a new home with a new body. She loved her family so deeply and that leaves the hole she left even bigger. Remembering Lisa will always make me smile because she always made me smile, ALWAYS

Doug and Anika, I am so sorry for your loss, I hope that the peace of knowing that she is not in pain anymore finds you well. I wish that I could be there, but Anika, even though I'm not there in person, know that I'm just a phone call or a message away even though we don't know each other that well! What an example Lisa provided for us that even when life handed her lemons, she found a way to make lemonade--not just for herself, but for everyone to enjoy. Thankful for her example.

Doug and Anika
We met when Hess brought me out for this job. I had doubts weather I would come out here from Kentucky. But the first time I met you at Hawkeye I was excited about coming out here to work with you all. Then my wife came out to visit and when we all got together and met each other's family my wife Kim took to Lisa and adored Lisa's spirits. We enjoyed what little time that we were able to spend you and Lisa. We will also miss Lisa as well. Our deepest condolence goes out to your family Doug. We are here for you whenever you need to someone to lean on.
God Bless

Words can not express my sadness at the loss of Lisa. Our families have known each other since our Great-grandparents, so it's like she was almost family. Like most everyone, I will miss her "meanwhile at the Barkie abode", and "bugbites" on Facebook. She brought such joy to everyone with her wit and humor. Anika, be grateful for the time you got to spend and hold onto your memories of her. Know that she was a very honorable, intelligent person who loved you so much. My prayers are with the family today as you lay her to rest. Sending love and peace.

We so wish that we could be with you today. We are with you in spirit. Lisa was such an inspiration to all around her. Our lives were enriched by hers - not only while we were in Watford City, but more recently through facebook. We are so thankful that one day we will meet again - and that will be forever! Until then, we are praying that the peace of God that passes understanding will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
All our love and prayers,
