Jon Michael Getchell was born on November 20, 1962, to Jerome and Arliss (Nelson) Getchell in Roundup, MT. Since his father worked in the oilfield, they moved several times before settling down in Sidney, MT, in the summer of 1968. As soon as Jon was old enough he began his athletic adventures with the Sidney Swim Team, joining 3 of his siblings and continuing through his growing up years. He was a member of the Boy Scout Troop 187 under John Ratliff and played baseball in the Babe Ruth program.
Jon graduated from the Sidney Senior High School with the class of 1981. While he was in school Jon was very active in sports. He was Homecoming King and won the Forest “Ford” Clyde outstanding senior football player award.
After high school Jon worked in the oilfield doing various Jobs. On April 12, 1982, Jon went on a date with Vicki Trudell, and 4 years later on that day they got married.
Jon and Vicki brought 3 children into this world, Trevor, Tori, and Tate. Jon worked different jobs throughout his life. He spent the last 18 years at the Sidney High School as a maintenance man. Jon was very dedicated to his job and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do if someone asked.
Jon enjoyed watching his children participate in numerous sports and musical events. He also had a special gift of music. Jon had a beautiful voice and shared it as much as he could at church being a cantor, Karaoke, making videos for people on their birthdays, and learning new songs to share with people he loved.
Jon was very faith filled and loved helping others. Jon and Vicki celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary by traveling to New York and getting to know their first grandchild and his forever family.
Jon will be remembered for his compassionate, caring ways and his Getchell grin!
Jon left our lives too early on Monday, January 2, 2017.
He is survived by: his wife of 30 years, Vicki Getchell; his children, Trevor, Fairview, MT, Victoria “Tori”, Jamestown, ND, and Tate, Billings, MT; his grandson, Nehemiah, Mumford, NY; his three sisters, Holly (Dennis) Mikula, Oregon, Joy (Bruce) Prevost, Sidney, MT, Julie Melby (Kenny Hanson) Williston, ND; his three brothers, Marvin “Kim” (Val) Getchell, Billings, MT, Randy (Tami) Getchell, Fairview, MT, Jody Getchell, Billings, MT; his mother-in-law, Betty Trudell, Fairview, MT; sister-in-law, Patti (Mike) Krieger, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Jeff (Julie) Trudell, Fairview, MT, and Kevin “Rusty” Trudell, Dickinson, ND; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, infant sister-Susan Getchell, his brother-Blaine Getchell, and his father-in-law, Russ Trudell.
