She was baptized June 6, 1930 at the Rawson Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alexander, ND.
Joann started her education in Rawson until moving to Alexander with her parents in 1939. While attending high school in Alexander, she worked with the school paper, “The Comet”, played on the girls basketball team, and worked at the Ohnsager General Store as a soda jerk. She kept busy playing in a couple of Bridge Clubs, bowling, serving as a 4H assistant leader, and holding various offices in the TOPS ND 48 club. In Later years, she was very active within Our Redeemers Lutheran Church being part of the Quilting Ladies and serving as a Deacon. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and quilting. She presented quilts to each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as numerous others. She took pride in presenting denim quilts made by the Church quilting ladies to the high school graduates who were members of the Church.
She took great joy in watching the growth and development of her family.
