Marie was born on her parents’ homestead in McCabe, MT to Peder Chris and Lucy (Andersen) Olsen on July 1, 1921. Marie attended McCabe Grade School and graduated from Culbertson High School in 1939. Her first and tenth grade years were spent in Berkeley, CA where her father had job opportunities.
Marie worked for the Schnitzler Corporation in Froid, MT before her marriage in 1942 to Agner Hofman. They had three children, Judy, Kathy, and John. Agner and Marie lived in McCabe for 36 years where they farmed and Marie was a homemaker and postmasters assistant, eventually becoming postmaster, retiring in 1986. They moved to Culbertson in 1979. Two years after Agner’s death in 2007, Marie moved to Crestwood and later to the Lodge on Lone Tree Creek, in Sidney, MT. In September of 2015, Marie moved in to Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley, ND.
Marie died on Thursday afternoon, April 27, 2017, at Mountrail Bethel Home, Stanley, ND.
Marie is survived by: her two daughters, Judith (Richard) Jensen, Sidney, MT and Kathleen (Dean) Bjorge, West Fargo, ND; her son, John (Judy) Hofman, Sr., Walla Walla, WA; her nine grandchildren, John Hofman, Jr., James Hofman, Kevin Hofman, Christopher Hofman, Lisa Luft, Joel Bjorge, Mark Jensen, Lori Hagen, and Donald Jensen; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Agner; her brothers, Kenneth Olsen, and Alton Olson.
