Residence: Powers Lake, ND

David Edwards, 61, of Powers Lake, ND, passed away, Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Mountrail County Medical Center, in Stanley, ND.

David Lynn Edwards was born April 8, 1956 to Clifford and Pearl (Godejohn) Edwards, in Kenmare, ND. David passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 in Stanley, ND.

David, aka “Snowball” was raised on the family farm north of Powers Lake. He attended school and graduated from Powers Lake High School in 1974. After high school he went to work in the oil field where he made his life- long career and since 2005 he had been employed with Petroleum Experience.

On April 6, 1984, David married the love of his life, Celeste Marden. From that union they had eleven children and from those eleven children came six grandchildren, who were the light of David’s life.

David was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake. In 2002, he was confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. James Catholic Church where he remained a member for the rest of his days. He was a knight with the Knights of Columbus. David found great strength and comfort in his faith.

In 2012, David got back into farming and ranching in partnership with his two sons, Cliff and Nathaniel and his son-in-law, Derek. Together they built up a herd of Red Angus cattle that David was very proud of. He enjoyed being back on the farm and working with the cattle.
David was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. He loved watching the games with his family. One day while driving home his daughter, Ella told him she was going to cheer for the Packers, to which David stopped the pick-up and told her jokingly to “get out”. More than professional sports, David enjoyed watching his own children play sports and other activities they were involved in. He also had a passion for politics and was not afraid to share his conservative views with those around him.

Family was most important to David. His and Celeste’s home had become the gathering place for their large family as well as for extended family over the years. He was always there to give a hug or hold a grandchild. His love will live with us forever.

David is survived by his wife of 33 years, Celeste; his children: Cliff (Mallory), Alicia (Derek) Hockenbary, Nathaniel, Alexis (Jesse) Lawrence, Samuel, Jerome, Grace, Ella, Marah and Isaiah; grandsons: Bentley, Paxton, Asher, Kahl and Waylon and one granddaughter, Charlee, all of Powers Lake; siblings: Diane Woodard of Scobey, MT, Deborah Becker, Billings, MT, and Darrell Edwards of Powers Lake; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karlee; parents Clifford and Pearl; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruby and Edward Marden; brothers-in-law Lyle and Bruce Marden, Eric Post; and sister-in-law, Angela Marden.
