Daniel Aaron Chamness, 35, of Bismarck, formerly of Williston, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.

Daniel was born to Bill and Nancy Chamness in Williston, ND on June 19, 1982. They made their home north of Williston and then moved to the farm outside of Arnegard, ND in 1984. Daniel attended school in Watford City,ND graduating from Watford City High School in 2000. Daniel grew up playing Arnegard Spuds baseball, helping on the farm and was often off riding bike down the road to spend time with his Grandma Margaret Hovde and his cousins Nathan and Michelle Hovde. Daniel could be a mischievous little boy picking on his sister and was always having fun in whatever he did. Daniel acquired a love for computers at a very young age, sharing his computer hobby with his Dad, Bill. Daniel and his Dad also shared a love for snowmobiling in the mountains, fast cars including his 1977 Firebird and the enjoyment of a good deep conversation. Daniel always looked forward to ‘trips to town’ as this meant visiting his Auntie Linda and sharing whatever he had learned that was new—anything went-- including explaining to her after learning what “an over the shoulder boulder holder” was.

On August 29, 2009, Daniel married the love of his life, Courtney. Daniel’s sense of humor and style of: pajama pants with the day’s choice of dress shirt, caught her eye just over 4 years prior. Daniel was a very thoughtful and supportive husband, often surprising Courtney with flowers at work ‘Just Cause’ or a random surprise when he’d been sent to the grocery store. In 2011, they welcomed their son, Carter, and in 2013 they completed their family with a daughter, Emily. They made their home in Williston and most recently moved to Bismarck. Daniel’s wife and children were the light of his life. Daniel was a #1 Husband and Daddy. A true family man, Daniel loved to spend time with his family: Football Sundays watching his favorite team the Green Bay Packers, camping in the summers, watching movies, teaching Carter-boy how to play on Daddy’s computer, even playing Barbies or reading with his baby girl, Emily. Daniel and Courtney could find joy in anything to spend time together, whether it was a house project or snuggling on the couch. They made a pact to kiss each-other Goodbye and tell each-other “I love you” every day—no matter what.

Daniel had a very witty sense of humor and was hardly ever found without a smile and a joke. Daniel will be missed so very much by his family, friends and those that knew him.

Daniel is survived by his wife Courtney (Nelson) Chamness, his son, Carter and his daughter, Emily, his parents William (Bill) and Nancy (Hovde) Chamness, his sister Heidi Rink (Leroy) and nephews Brady and Billy (Huntley, MT), his in-laws Jeff and LuAnn (Kornkven) Nelson, sister in-law Megan Miller (Aaron) and nephew Ian (Greeley, CO), brother-in-law Aaron Nelson (Kayla) and nieces Lillyanna & Ellie (Minot, ND) and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins as well as his extended family.

Daniel was preceded in death by his Grandparents Margaret and Hjalmer Hovde, Nancy Wegley & Marvin Chamness, and his Uncle Steven Wegley.
