Glenda Jo Norby claimed she was born in a chicken coup on the farm in McKenzie County on September 19, 1950, the daughter of Richard and Ruby (Mikkelsen) Norby. Glenda married the love of her life, Chuck Gilstad on October 6, 1972 in New Town, ND. She attended St. Josephs Cosmetology school after high school. She started her career as a beautician working for her would be future mother-in-law, New Trend Beauty Salon, and eventually owning and operating her own salon for several years. Glenda enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher for several years at Bethel Lutheran Church and assisting with special ed students at Edwin Loe Elementary School. She also worked in the New Town Nursing Home and at 4 Bears Casino, working as a wardrobe manager.
Glenda loved to bake and prepare large meals for family gatherings and holidays. She took great pride in cooking for Chucks coworkers during the holidays when they couldn’t be with their families. She was a great quilter/blanket maker. Glenda enjoyed gardening, canning her garden produce, fishing, and puzzles, being a master of sudoku. Most of all, she loved to spoil her grandchildren.
Glenda was an Awesome/Fantastic best friend, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Glenda will be deeply missed by her husband of 45 years, Chuck Gilstad; children, Aaron (Kimberly Scott) Gilstad, Clint (Ashley Lanz) Gilstad, Brock (Jarah Wieland) Gilstad; grandchildren, Kade, Cole, Raegann, Aiden, Ayla, Grayson, Rhyann, Kathan; siblings, Connie (Donald) Arnold, Ronnie (Avis) Norby, Gary (Judy) Norby, Sheryl (Roger) Sorenson. Keith (Val) Norby, Arlene Sullivan, Mona (Kenny) Lindley; many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ruby and a grandson, Jax Gilstad.
