Allen “Shorty” Douglas Johnson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot, North Dakota. Shorty was born on June 30, 1941, in Watford City, North Dakota to Florence Frances (Coles) Johnson and William Ivan Johnson. Shorty attended Rocky Glenn and Watford City Public School. Shorty then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served at the Great Lakes Naval Training Academy, from 1961 to 1962 and was granted a Honorable Discharge, after his return home, Shorty then went on to further his education at the North Dakota State School of Science, in Wahpeton, North Dakota between the years of 1967 – 1969, where he achieved his Certificate in Auto Mechanics. Soon after, Shorty became employed with the McKenzie County Roads Department as a Heavy Equipment operator where he was employed for 15 years. Shorty also worked a time for Black Hills Trucking and eventually became a full- time farmer along with his father, Ivan, on their family farm.

As everyone who knew Shorty could tell you, that he enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and gun shooting. He also had hobbies of woodworking and gun smithing. Shorty was also an accomplished leather worker, he sent off for his first kit when he was 17 years old and it is a hobby that he would say he enjoyed and it just kept on with it. Shorty also loved to read books he was an avid reader, some of his favorite reads were of course, non – fiction books and the True Adventures Series. He was truly a lover of music; Gospel, Bluegrass, and the old country genre to name a few.

Shorty was an avid supporter of many clubs and organizations that are set on helping individual people and their rights as individuals. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, National Rifle Association, North Dakota Shooting Sports and the Badlands Shooting Club.

Shorty will be missed dearly by all his close friends and his family, his stories, his knowledge and his great company will never be replaced. Shorty was a simple man, who enjoyed where he was at during the moment and enjoyed his life just by living in the moment. Just to be said of Shorty and his simplicity he requested to be buried in work clothes, no suit.

Shorty is survived by : his brother, William Dale Johnson( Sabrina), Minn,; his sisters, Claudia Fisketjon , Florida, Judy Okland, North Dakota and Corrine Sage (Willis), North Dakota, along with many Nephews and Nieces. He is preceded in death by his father, William Ivan Johnson, and his mother Florence (Coles) Johnson, Paternal Grandparents and Maternal Grandparents.

Shorty was one of my all-time favorites to wait on at Ginny's. We would have the best conversations about farming and animals. He would tease me all the time, but I enjoyed it! He made me a pair of leather earrings and had painted an "N" on each of them as he knew that purple was my favorite color! I will never forget his friendship!
