Visitation
Friends may call at the Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home on Monday, October 29th from noon until 7:00 PM and at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to services.

Service
A Vigil with a Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home Chapel in Williston.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Williston. Fr. Russell Kovash will celebrate the Mass.

Ronald Oster, 58, of Williston, ND, formerly of rural Grenora, ND, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 24, 2018 in Williston. His funeral arrangements are with Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Williston.

Ronald James Oster was born November 10, 1959 to Reynold and Laverne Oster. They lived and farmed by Grenora, ND. Ron grew up farming and made countless memories with friends and family. He graduated from Grenora High School in 1978. He then attended Williston State College and continued to farm with his father, whom he admired and learned from.

Ron married Cathie Savelkoul in 1982. Together they raised four beloved children, 3 daughters and a son. Ron worked hard, selflessly and endlessly for his family.

He loved his community and the many friends he made throughout his life. He had a charisma about him that was fun to be around and a quick wit that would leave you with a smile.

In 2010 he married his best friend and love of his life Carla Oster. Ron retired from farming in 2012, pursing other opportunities. During retirement Ron and Carla enjoyed a happy and spontaneous life full of adventures, travel and spending their winters in Arizona. They spent as much time as they could spoiling and making memories with their grandkids.
Ron was a loving husband, committed father, a proud grandpa and loyal friend.

Ron is survived by his wife, Carla; daughters, Amy Oster (Walker Silha) of Bismarck, ND; Jennifer (Ryan) Wade and their sons, Tyson, Dilan, Rylan and Calvin of Grenora, ND; Amanda Oster of Minot, ND; Andrea (Andrew) Hafford and daughters Everly, Finley, and Kyrie of Gilbert, AZ; sons, Jonathan Oster of Fargo, ND and Taylor Thompson of Boise, ID; sisters, LaRae (Tim) Nelson of Bismarck, ND; Mary Ellen (Ed) Nelson of Reno, NV; Pat (Ron) Christenson of Dagmar, MT; Luella Nantt of Bismarck ND; brother, Jerry (Anita) Rockstad of Casa Grande, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rey and Laverne Oster.

Our deepest sympathies. I knew Ron as a little boy, I’m considerably older. He purchased or family farm after my parents were gone. I really enjoyed his company and admired him. Dear Carla and Ron's family. My heart has been so heavy, numb and empty since I heard of Ron's passing. It has been very hard to imagine he is no longer with us. Ron and I were class mates in high school. We became good friends because we had lockers by each other for 5 years. Many happy memories of high school and college because of his sense of humor. He was always up to something. I will treasure the memories of going to Wee Fest with you guys, getting together in Williston, you guys stopping in Culbertson and just laughing and having fun. Ron's generosity toward everyone was remarkable. He made friends everywhere he went and always had laughter surround him. Never a dull moment. Heaven for sure got one special angel. I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Ron's death. He was a school board member when I went to Grenora, and after that I would run into him on many different occasions....at a chuck wagon dinner in AZ, watching the Bison play at RTO Sullivans (in Mesa, AZ), on plane trips back to ND, and last year at the Rib Fest in Watford City. We always had a good visit, and I am so sad that he will not be in AZ again this winter. My condolences to Carla and his kids.
