Dan Hoffman, 56, Alice, ND died on Saturday, September 28 at his home.
Dan was born in Culbertson, MT to Paul and Sally Hoffman on June 25, 1963. Dan, more affectionately known as “Bug”, got his nickname because his siblings thought he looked like a bug when his parents brought him home from the hospital. He grew up on the farm, south of Froid, MT and attended school in Froid. An unfortunate accident at the age of 19 left him paralyzed from the waist down. In 1983, he moved to Bozeman, MT. He attended college and received his degree in B.S. and worked as a dispatcher for the state of MT. In 1996, he moved to Washington to be closer to his two older brothers. He worked at Boeing building interior plane parts for six years. In 2004, he moved to Alice, ND to live with his younger brother and family. He helped his brother doing book fairs for Books Are Fun for 3 years.
Growing up, his family traveled to Oklahoma and throughout the Midwest to custom harvest for the season. This was a passion of Bug’s. He loved meeting people and making new friends. He also loved fishing, hunting, puzzles, reading, NASCAR, football, sitting by a good fire or the wood stove, and playing games (Whist, pinochle, cribbage, Tripolee). Bug had a green thumb and could grow almost anything in the garden and turn it into great food. He loved making homemade noodles and chicken soup, just like his mom and grandma.
Bug was full of charisma and had a personality that drew people to him. He was very generous and didn’t hesitate to help someone in need. He loved kids and enjoyed spending time with all his nieces and nephews. No matter where he went, he made friends.
He is survived by his Dad, Paul, of Culbertson, MT, siblings: Cindy Taylor (Joe) of Jackson, MN, Kris Schmidt of Billings, MT, Tim (Linda) of Everett, WA, Henry of Everett, WA, and David (Liana) of Alice, ND. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Wes, Ryan, Shane, Mark, Sam, Amanda, Whitney, Steven, Kayla, Kimberly, John, six great nieces, and one great nephew.
Dan was preceded in death by his Mom, Sally and his maternal (James and Mary Knick) and paternal (Henry and Pauline Hoffman) grandparents.
To all those whose lives Bug has touched, “This Bud’s for you!”
