Vickie Sanders, 74 of Tioga, ND passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Tioga Medical Center in Tioga, ND.
Vickie was born on the 3rd day of September 1946 to Harvey and Aileen (Stapp) Wilcox in Grand Island, Nebraska. She was the youngest of two sisters born to Harvey and Aileen. After a short stay in Nebraska, Vickie’s family relocated to Cody, Wyoming in 1948 where Vickie grew up and attended school.
Around 1970, Vickie met the love of her life Virgil Sanders, Jr. and they were married on the 7th of August that year. Vickie and Virgil settled down in Thermopolis, Wyoming to raise their family - Dawn, Travis, Danyle (Dee) and Trenity. There, Vickie spent her time as a homemaker spending her time involved in their children’s activities. Vickie and Virgil were happily married until his passing in 2003.
Vickie’s life was spent surrounded by family and friends. She was an avid bowler, playing in leagues in & around the Thermopolis area where she held many records. She enjoyed playing bingo at the bingo hall or for any charity event. Vickie enjoyed the outdoors; camping, seeking out the right fishing hole to go fishing and making soda-pop pancakes for those early morning breakfasts. She would always be watching old movies with her favorites being old westerns. She enjoyed her downtime in a book reading mysteries or playing games on her tablet.
Vickie had a knack for crafting often thinking up different projects – from crocheting to any other artistic endeavor she could think up. Over the years, she would attend craft shows and even had a pop-up store while she resided in Thermopolis. Her last project she worked on was candle making. They were unique with wonderful scents and she had them on display & for sale at local shops.
Later on in life, Vickie came to live with her daughter Dee in Tioga, North Dakota. Here, she was able to spend most of her time with her grandchildren; Caitlyn, Tyler, Austin, Chant, Canvas, Maelyn, Haakon and Odyssey. They all looked forward to Christmas time because Grandma “G-Ma” was known for making her delicious krumkakes and rosettes – a tradition handed down to her by her Norwegian mother-in-law. Her goodies will be missed, especially her potato soup, cabbage burgers and other delicious treats she spoiled us all with throughout the years.
Vickie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Harvey & Aileen; her sister, Rolanda “Lanny” Mees; and her beloved husband, Virgil.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Brian) Bazzell of Elsberry, Missouri and their children, Matthew and Jeffery; her son, Travis (Marianne) Sanders of Rock Springs, Wyoming; another daughter, Danyle Sanders (Alan Hurley) along with their big family of ten in Tioga, North Dakota; and her youngest daughter, Trenity (Randy) Vital of Tennessee along her children, Caitlin, Billy, Elinor, Michele, and Ryan. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
