Elroy H. Hanson passed away at his home near Tioga on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. Elroy was born May 26, 1944, in Stanley, North Dakota, to Esther and Harold Hanson. He grew up in Tioga and attended Tioga High School, where he played football and made life-long friends; he graduated with the class of 1962.

Elroy married Diane L. Severson on Sept. 25, 1965, and they lived on the Hanson family farm near Tioga. They were proud parents to two daughters, Toni and Donita.

Elroy farmed and ranched for more than 40 years; he and Diane were avid gardeners who were well-known for their impressive gardens every year. Elroy was also a talented and creative welder throughout his life; he worked as a welding supervisor with Air Heaters in the early 1980s.

A great storyteller, Elroy enjoyed sharing family history and funny, sometimes hard-to-believe stories – we will greatly miss his humor and wit.

He is survived by his wife Diane; daughter, Toni Marmon (Jeffery Jr., Mitchell, Jessie and Cole); daughter, Donita Leeson (Matthew and Grace); sister, Arlene (Hanson) Westrom; niece, Patty (Westrom) Richards; son-in-law, Todd Marmon; and numerous great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Hanson; mother, Esther (Ives) Hanson and brother, Willard Hanson.
