David Roger Pitman, 70 of Williston, ND passed away, at his home on Wednesday, May 17th, 2023.

David was born July 21, 1952, in Williston, ND to Foy and Wanda Pitman, where he spent his life working the oilfields. He had a strong work ethic he learned from his father, and didn’t mind working extra hard to have nice things. He met his wife Penny and fell in love with her immediately, they were married August 12, 1972. He was in the Army from 1972-1974, stationed in Killeen, Tx. He then returned to Williston and went to work for Wisco, the company his dad, Foy, uncle Troy, and Buck Scheele started. Later on, working for Pitman Drilling- Foy and uncle Troy’s company, to eventually buying out other partners and owning it with Penny running the office. He made a lot of great friends and acquaintances along the way, some with us, and some now sadly gone. But to sit and listen to all the stories was truly fascinating.

When he was younger he enjoyed horseback riding, and the outdoors. Later he moved on to boats and skiing at the lake, parasailing with wife Penny and their friends and family. He enjoyed archery, hunting and even was able to get a mountain lion on one trip. He worked to get his pilots license and took his children up for flights a few times. He and a friend, Oris spent 2 years building each their own custom motorcycles, his, with a Cadillac engine, and sidecar. Both bikes won prizes at the Sturgis show the following year, and were sent to a bike show in Germany.

He had a fantastic mind and was extremely good at engineering things to fit his needs, something he passed on to his kids and grandkids. He worked hard his entire life, and in later years assumed his favorite position of Supervisor, always choosing a spot and “setting up shop”. In 2004 he and Penny sold their business and retired.

He is survived by his children, Pysethanie (Lee) Dean, Daniel (Linda) Pitman, David (Jennifer) Pitman, Darren (Nicole) Pitman, Dustin Pitman. Grandchildren, Alexia Pitman, Kaylee Pitman, David William Pitman, Jules Dean, Lucas Pitman, Alex and McKaela Pitman, Jesse Dean, and Jordan Dean. Brother, Don (Andrea) Pitman; sister, Debbie (Jim) Deal, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Foy and Wanda Pitman; wife, Penny Pitman; brother, Dennis Pitman and granddaughter, Jenifer Alvarez.

Uncle David was always so welcoming. It was truly fascinating to visit with him. And it seemed like whatever he decided to create or accomplish was done with excellence. I loved his mischievous humor and his laughter. My heart goes out to my cousins as they say goodbye.

The sweetest kindest little boy who grew up to be one of a kind man. Dave will be missed by everyone who knew him, he was that kind of guy. He was hard but full of empathy. Hug and kiss the family in heaven for me… best cousin ever??

David was one of those guys you could call on in a pinch, and always seemed to have some interesting project going on. He was the kind of guy who could make things happen, and will be missed.
