Donna Mae Kellogg
October 17, 1931 - June 28, 2023

Place of Birth: Arnegard, North Dakota
Residence: Watford City, North Dakota
Age: 91

Donna Mae Kellogg was born on October 17, 1931, to Alma Marie (Hystad) and Lars Peter Quinnell at her grandparent's home in a little town in western McKenzie County which is now only a spot on the side of a road. She had two older brothers, Lloyd and Noral (Bud).

The first home Donna remembered living in was in the Bennie Pierre Creek area. She learned early how to stay away from places frequented by rattlesnakes, but mice were harder to avoid. After her parents' separation and following the death of her mother, she and her brothers lived with Uncle Hank and Aunt Emma Hystad. Donna continued living with her uncle's family through her junior year in high school. She stayed with the Thomas family her senior year in high school. She worked for Lettie Kellogg the summer before her senior year and after she graduated from Watford City High school in 1949. Donna attended nursing school in Mitchell, SD, from 1951 to 1954 and worked in Sidney, MT, and Williston as well as the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City in the following years.

Donna was united in marriage to Thomas Uhlman Kellogg on October 30, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Williston, ND. They resided on the Uhlman/Kellogg ranch in northern McKenzie County until 1970 when they purchased the Joe Van Dyke ranch and moved there. Four children were born to them: Terry Thomas, Judy Rae, James Lee and Gene Conrad.

Donna had a love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, which saw her through the good and the difficult times. She was a member of the Watford City Wesleyan Church for many years. She enjoyed taking her turn providing special music for services. A highlight of her life was getting baptized in the river Jordan on a once in a lifetime trip to Israel a few years ago.

Donna was a talented seamstress and would sew clothing for her children and grandchildren. She also created some quilts and enjoyed a variety of needlework projects. It was rare to see her without a project in her hands, especially as she made many gifts for her grandchildren when they began arriving. She enjoyed photography and genealogy, as well, in order to preserve family history.

Donna loved riding horse, helping with the farm and ranch work, and working with the cattle. She rescued animals in need including a porcupine and a raccoon! She enjoyed being outdoors but also spent a lot of time cooking and baking for her family. When living on the Uhlman/Kellogg ranch early in her marriage, she also raised a large garden. She loved plants and flowers and often had a display of them in her home.

Donna and Tom were very involved with the 4-H program when their children were in it and continued to follow some of the grandchildren and great grandchildren as they entered the program. They attended many county and state fairs, 4-H livestock shows and sporting events (basketball, football, gymnastics, volleyball, and hockey). She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's classrooms and telling stories about all the animals that she doctored and raised.

Donna is survived by her children, Terry (Jonilla) Kellogg, Judy (Duane) Jacobson, James (Dawn) Kellogg, and Gene (Eda) Kellogg; 13 grandchildren, Tabitha (Ted) Schuster, Teryl Kellogg, Tamera (Shane) Blowers, Brett (Melissa) Jacobson, Loren Jacobson, Arlen (Chelsea)Jacobson, Letitia Jacobson, Mari (Nathan) Schell, Brenna Kellogg, Kavin, Nevaeh, Alexus and Maria Kellogg; 10 great-grandchildren, Parker, Paige, and Paxton Schuster, Wyatt and Illa Blowers, Harlee and Evan Jacobson, Evelina Jacobson, and Corbyn and Emersyn Schell; her special friend, Deb Kellogg; her half-brother, Tony Quinnell; her sister-in-law, Bonnie Quinnell; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her parents (Alma and Lars); her brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Sharon Quinnell, Bud and Sandy Quinnell; her half-brothers, Lars Peter Quinnell III and Clayton Quinnell; and her half-Sister, Brenda Quinnell.

Sincerely sorry for the difficult time you are going through. May you find a measure of comfort knowing that your mother’s love is never-ending. Her love forever remains in the memories you’ve made with her over the years. May those memories bring smiles to your faces and may God’s promises comfort you too. Acts 24:15; Psalms 37:29

Privileged to be with her during one of her birthdays!
I miss you already, Grandma Donna. One thing I know and am happy about is that you knew Christ and took Him as your personal savior! You're such a sweet mother during the brief moments I crossed paths with you.
You're such a disciplinarian which makes you a good person already. As scripture put it, whom the Father loves He chastens so I knew you did that all for your show of Love. I will never forget you Grandma especially as you entrusted the friendship of your very own (Teryl) to me for life! I truly love you and your beautiful family!!!
