Shawn Edward Etheridge was born on March 18, 1974 in Big Timber, Montana to Daniel Edward Etheridge and Anita Rose Hotchkiss Woodworth. He was the husband of Cheryl Lee Etheridge. Shawn passed away suddenly at their home in Savage, Montana of natural causes.
Most recently Shawn was employed by Fisher Industries, Glendive, MT. He was previously employed at Sidney Health Center, Wood Group and Corcorran Trucking. He is a retired Navy Veteran having served 20 years, 8 months and 7 days serving his country. He retired as a Senior Chief while stationed in Hawaii. His time in the service was something that brought him great pride and honor. He has seen all corners of this glorious orb we call Earth. He was an engineman on the USS Harpers Ferry, USS Whidbey Island, USS Devastator. He was stationed all over the world including California, Texas, Virginia, Japan and Hawaii. He was most fond of the years he spent stationed in Japan. He spent a year on the ground in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. He carried many mental scars and demons from his time at war. He is a lifetime member of the Glendive Montana VFW.
His most joyous times he found riding his motorcycle. Through this activity he made many friends and met many he called Brother/Sister. He considered all who rode his family; the same as he did with any veteran he may meet along the way.
He somewhat of a scattered childhood. He was raised during his early childhood in Big Timber, Montana and recounted spending days and nights out on the ranch herding sheep in a sheep herders’ wagon. His later childhood was spent in Moore, MT where he was fostered to John and Suzie Barthol. He graduated from Moore High School. His Navy recruiter was on the opposite side of the stage to meet him and he went straight away to Butte, Montana for his induction into the Navy. He noted he didn’t even attend his own graduation party. He was off to see the world.
He met his wife Cheryl Etheridge through activities of his motorcycle groups. They spent 4 years enjoying their motorcycle family doing events, camping, bike shows and charity events.
Shawn is preceded in death by his Grandparents Lou and Mickey Edwards, Foster parents John and Suzie Barthol, many brothers and sisters of the Armed Services. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Etheridge, his mother Anita Woodworth, sister Connie Williams, brother Travis (Christi) Marsh, brother Joseph Marsh, brother John Barthol, Jr., sister Marie Kovalchik, brother Anthony Barthol, ex-wife Margaret LeDoux, Stepdaughters Calista and Catherine, ex-mother in-law Cora LeDoux many nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
Arrangements are being performed by Fulkerson-Stevenson Funeral Home of Sidney. At Shawn’s request he will be cremated. A memorial and burial service will be held at a later date in Big Timber, MT.
