It Is Our Privilege And Purpose To Serve You
Marie Roise
July 29, 1933 - June 7, 2024

Place of Birth: Powers Lake, North Dakota
Residence: Stanley, North Dakota
Age: 90

After a quick fall the evening of June 6, 2024, Marie passed away peacefully the evening of June 7 at a Minot hospital. She had been scooting around the halls of the Bethel Home with her walker, visiting as usual, earlier in the day on the 6th. However, after an ambulance ride to Minot, she did not awaken from what they determined to be signs of strokes.

Marie was born on a farm in rural Powers Lake, ND to Maynard and Annie Godejohn on July 29, 1933. She grew up on farms in the Powers Lake and White Earth areas and attended school in White Earth, graduating from White Earth High School in May 1951.

Marie met Oliver Roise and they were married on September 30, 1951 at Cottonwood Lake Lutheran Church. They lived on the Roise farm where they raised their family for many years. The Cottonwood neighborhood was a special part of their life, but it was time for the next generation to take over farming so they moved to Stanley in 1977.

Marie worked at the Mountrail County Bethel Home, Dakota Drug and Reep Clothing. Marie and Oliver worked and lived at the Prairie Host Motel as managers for 10 years. After they moved back to their house, they continued to live in Stanley for many years until Oliver passed away in 2009. Marie enjoyed helping numerous elderly people in Stanley with home health assistance over the years.

One of the highlights of her life was traveling to Norway multiple times with Oliver to meet all the Roise family relatives. Oliver’s first cousins and their families were so special to them and in turn visited in Stanley many times after the first trip to meet them in 1974.

Marie was a member of White Earth, Cottonwood Lake, Holy Cross and Bethlehem Lutheran churches during her lifetime.

She enjoyed her homes and neighbors on 1st and 2nd Street in Stanley, but had moved into the Mountrail County Bethel Home in August of 2023 after celebrating her 90th birthday in July of 2023. She was the embroidered dishtowel and Rummikub queen. She loved to tell you that you had to follow the rules! Her greatest love was the joy that she was able to give to people who purchased her dishtowels.

She is survived by her children and families, sons, Gerald Roise (LuAnn) of Minot, ND, Kenny Roise of Minot, ND, and Randy Roise (Linda) of Renton, WA; daughters, Joanne Erickson (Lynn) of Prairie du Sac WI, Carol Spillum (Mike) of Sioux Falls, SD and Cindy Lagerquist (Jody) of Westby, MT; grandchildren, Garrett Erickson, Brooke Erickson (Danielle), Adam Froyum Roise (Carissa), Dustin Roise (Barb), Jason Roise (Andie), Amanda Rabe (Matt), Joy Chrzanowski (Tom), Wade Spillum, Aaron Lagerquist and Alica Lagerquist; great-grandchildren, Beckham Erickson, Katy Roise, Cohen Erickson, Annie Roise, Isak Froyum Roise, Hans Froyum Roise, Jessy Roise, Linnea Froyum Roise, Omni Roise, Knute Roise, Makenzie Rabe and Rylie Rabe.

Memorial Contribution

We were saddened to learn of Marie's death. She was quick to welcome us to the Stanley Community when we lived there and we enjoyed many visits in her home or ours. After we moved to Minot, Marie would travel by senior bus and often included a visit to our home or a meal at Perkins. We will miss her.

I have such a special place in my heart for Marie (and Oliver). They shared their home with me when I taught in Stanley. Oh how she loved her flower garden and she was so welcoming to everyone. Thanking God that we met and will meet again in Heaven.
